Summary: We joined the Sea Turtle Tours as a family with 2 younger (5y&7y) kids. The trip was truely magical. We booked the conservationist private tour, where we could join the rangers and help. Through WhatsApp the booking was arranged. We had a hotel pickup, had a lovely lunch and hikes to Green Bay and back. The ride by 4 wheel drive to Sukamade was already a adventure on a bumpy road and through a river, which we all enjoyed. The Guesthouse is a basic basecamp. After the simple but lovely diner we went to the beach for the turtles. We went with two rangers privately! So the whole group of people coming for the turtles went to the left and we went to the right side of the beach. The found a mother turtle digging her nest after a short walk on the beach. We took a seat quietly and watched her dig and lay her eggs. After that the rangers collected the eggs for the hatchery. Our kids could help to lay the eggs in order for counting and after that place then in the bag return to the basecamp and hatchery. After a picture with the turtle we walked back through the dark night and starry night. It was truely magical. In the e hatchery the kids helped to put the eggs in the hole. After a short night sleep we got up one hour earlier than the groups also visiting Sukamade. With the ranger we released young turtles back to the sea at sunrise, all alone on the beach. The best experience ever in the beautiful colors of the early morning. Then we helped collect some more eggs from two new nests for the hatchery. 296 eggs in total of all nests. After the hatchery we went for breakfast and on the way back to the hotel by 4W drive. It was definitely the highlight of our holiday and an experience we won’t forget. The conservationist trip was magical and I can highly recommend it to everyone wanting to go to Sukamade to see the turtles. Sea Turtle Tours is the only company offering the private ranger tours as I understood afterwards. It supports the local community, I was looking to book a trip not through a hotel. We got an exprecience at Sea Turtle Tours conservation trip that will last a lifetime.
